Our Theatre Visit
On Friday we will be seeing a world premier production, directed by Howard Davies, at Chichester Festival Theatre’s Minerva Theatre. “The House of Special Purpose” is written by Heidi Thomas, who was BAFTA and EMMY nominated for the BBC’s Cranford. It concerns the stifling July in Ekaterinburg (now Sverdlovsk), Russia in 1918 where the four young daughters of Tsar Nicholas are being guarded by young Bolshevik soldiers as the White Army closes in.
“Packed into the suffocating rooms, the family and their guards are forced into a frail
and dangerous intimacy, tensions rising as boundaries strain and break.”
The price is £25.00 including a drink. We appreciate that in previous years the theatre trip has been included in the overall price, but we felt that in the straightened economic circumstances this year, we ought to leave it as an optional extra.
Chichester
Chichester is West Sussex’s picture-perfect cathedral city, set below the South Downs, England’s brand new National Park. The city is close to both Downs and sea, with local landmarks including ‘Glorious’ Goodwood race track and Bosham Harbour. As well as the Festival Theatre the city has two art galleries, including 2007 Gallery of the Year – Pallant House, as well as stylish restaurants and superb shopping.
We are thrilled to be staying at the halls of Chichester University. The Bishop Otter Campus is at the heart of Chichester and all rooms on the leafy campus are ensuite with lifts to all floors.
Getting to Chichester
Chichester is 90 minutes by train from London and 45 minutes from Brighton, or is easily reached by car,
being at the eastern end of the M27. Southampton Airport is 30 miles away and Gatwick Airport 40 miles,
both airports can be reached easily by train.

I went to last year's Summer Conference in Liverpool. It was fantastic and I learnt a lot that will help me improve my speech and drama examinations. If you've never been to an STSD Conference, try this one. You won't be disappointed!
