CONFERENCE UPDATE / ENRICHMENT DAY
At their recent meeting, the Executive Committee made the painful, but unsurprising, decision that Conference 2021 in Stratford-upon-Avon could not take place. Despite the roll-out of the vaccination programme, the number of possible variables to the Government’s timeline to lift all restrictions, the possible reluctance of members to travel and meet together, the fact that our overseas members will be unable to travel and that one of the stages at the RSC will definitely be closed, leads to the inescapable conclusion that numbers willing to attend might be insufficient to make the Conference viable and mean the Society makes a loss that it can ill afford. Full refunds of money already paid for Stratford will be available on request. Payments received will automatically be transferred to Conference 2022 unless otherwise requested.
The revised Conference schedule is now:
2022 – Stratford Conference 19-21 August based in the Crowne Plaza Hotel
2023 – Canterbury Conference 17-20 August based in the University of Kent in Canterbury
2024 – Manchester
HOWEVER, as a result of the success of the ‘zoom AGM’, Executive agreed to replace this year’s Conference with a virtual ENRICHMENT DAY on a ‘webinar’ style platform with the focus being on the issues that are relevant to teachers of speech and drama TODAY.
The format of the day would follow the same administrative pattern as the AGM with 4 sessions of 1 hour duration with half hour breaks in between for interaction in ‘chat rooms’ and an hour for ‘lunch’. The technology will be refined from the AGM to allow people to move easily between the various chatrooms.
The timetable for the day:
